The Convocation ceremony for the 7th Batch of management graduates was held as part of the opening ceremony of ‘Serendipity’ - the annual cultural extravaganza organized by students. Held on 19th February 2011 at EZCC, Salt Lake, the annual event was organized as part of the series of ‘live projects’ that students undertake during their two year journey at GBS, and forms an integral part of the mentoring process that prepares students for high growth management careers. ‘Serendipity’ not only provides students with an invaluable opportunity to apply their management learning, in real time, while planning, financing, marketing, and managing the whole project, but also to showcase their multi-faceted skills.
Inaugurated by Mr. R. Gopalakrishnan – Executive Director of Tata Sons, the Chief Guest for this year’s ‘Serendipity’, the Convocation program saw 219 PGPM, PGP-International Business, and Executive-PGPM students being felicitated by Mr. Bikram Dasgupta – Chairman, Governing Council, Globsyn Business School.
Delivering his convocation speech Mr. R. Gopalakrishnan said – “Any institute provides you one ‘I’ in the form of ‘instruction’. What you need in your professional life is another ‘I’ for ‘intuition’ and a third ‘I’ for ‘inspiration’.” He advised the students to get immersed in their work – “Immersion means experiencing emotions and involvement so deeply that the lessons enter your brain’s remote memory. When needed, these lessons pop up on your mental screen without your trying. Achieving total immersion is a key step in the management of your energy and the development of intuition. Travelling, talking to customers, staying rooted mentally and emotionally, are all ways of doing so.” Talking about the weaknesses of a person, Mr. Gopalakrishnan commented – “As you develop your career, you will realize that you are prone to some weaknesses that are uniquely personal to you e.g. short temper, arrogance, garrulousness, insensitivity and so on. These are called de-railers. It is very difficult to completely remove such weaknesses, but you can push yourself to a heightened awareness of your de-railers. In this way, you can reduce their damage potential.”
Presenting the ‘Annual Report’ of the school Prof. Pratip Kar (Director, Globsyn Business School) touched upon the new initiatives undertaken by the school including launching of a fully validated program – MBM (Master of Business Management) - with Coventry University, UK. He also highlighted the fact that, given its strong technology backbone, the school has won the National Award for ‘Best B-School using Technology in Training/Education’ for the second year in row. This time the honour was conferred by Star News – the leading news channel.
The afternoon session of ‘Serendipity 2011’ saw the cultural program where the students of Globsyn Business School gave a scintillating performance with a wide repertoire consisting of singing, dancing, music coupled with a live fashion show!
The invitees for this event included parents, faculty member and their family, and alumnis.
